Eritrean Human Rights Defenders condemn the violence that was used in the protest against a festival by supporters of the Eritrean government yesterday in The Hague. We emphasise the importance of peaceful protest. We understand and feel the frustration among Eritreans in The Netherlands about the festivals, which are used to repress, spread propaganda, and which have a military character and links with Eritrea’s repressive government. However, violence against police and others is never the answer.
We must continue to protest peacefully.
The Foundation Eritrean Human Rights Defenders aims to have conversations with Eritrean youth about the protest methods.
